Recommendations for travelers

If you plan to travel to Costa Rica, here are some recommendations to make your experience safe, enjoyable and enriching.

Costa Rica is a beautiful and safe country, but take precautions.

  • Avoid walking alone at night, in areas with little traffic
  • Find out about the political situation before traveling, avoid demonstrations.
  • Use reliable transportation (official cabs, Uber or tourist transportation).
  • Keep your belongings safe, especially in markets and bus stations.
  • Try to handle little cash, preferably the country's legal tender.
  • Carry your digital copies of your documents in case of loss.
  • Take care of your luggage, avoid forgetting your belongings on the buses
  • To leave the country take your documents in order
  • Avoid exceeding the immigration time

 

Climate and best time to travel

Dry season: From December to April, best time to enjoy the beaches and mountains without rain.

Rainy season: May to November, ideal to see greener landscapes and lower prices, but with frequent rains.

For turtle watching in Tortuguero it is recommended to visit between July and October.
